Spyware Troubles?

Is your computer running slow? Getting lots of Pop-Ups? Then your computer might be infected with spyware. Spy-ware, also called Ad-ware or Scum-ware are programs that get installed on your computer that watch your surfing habits and provide advertising based on where you go. Spyware usually gets installed on your computer by installing other software such as smiley faces, weather or music sharing software.

Signs that your computer might be infected:

  • You get pop-up's on site that don't have pop-up ads such as Google.
  • You receive pop-ups even when you are not on the web.
  • Pop-up's show up at regular intervals.
  • Your computer is running slowly
  • Your internet connection seems slow.
  • You notice programs installed that you did not install.
  • You have extra-tool bars in your Internet Explorer
  • Your computer takes a long time to log-in.

Beating spyware is often a multi-pronged attack and requires the use of multiple tools. Also changing settings on your Internet Explorer will help in stopping spyware infections. Below are some recommendations on beating spyware, also, most all of the tools mentioned below are Free for personal use!

Using the products above will not guarantee that your computer will be free from spy-ware but it will certainly help.

There are many articles on the internet about beating spy-ware. One such article that addresses the problem and provides a solution is NeoWin member Mr magoo's Guide to Removing Spyware. Instead of ditching IE for another browser, Mr. magoo writes about how you can make changes to IE and your computer to help beat the ever increase problem of spyware. Read Mr. magoo's Guide to Removing Spyware from the NeoWin forums.
