Are you set to Disinfect?

The new version of Sophos is set to disinfect when it is installed. The following is only for users of the old version. If you have the shield icon then you are using the new version. If you have the Blue Flower then you have the old version. You should consider updating as soon as possible.

The default settings for Sophos Anti-Virus when it installs is to set the scan action to report only. This means that unless you go in and change the settings, Sophos will never remove a virus from your computer, just tell you about it.

How to set Sophos to Disinfect

  1. Open Sophos Anti-Virus.
  2. Click on the configure menu, select   "On-Access Scanning".
  3. Click on the "Disinfection" tab.
  4. Place a check box in the "Disinfect items that contain a virus".
  5. Under "other actions against infected files", check in the delete option.
  6. Click Ok

You Sophos is now set to disinfect viruses as it finds them.

Sophos Anti-Virus is provided for King's College Faculty, Staff and Students at no cost.
