Quick Start Guide for Windows Operating System.

This guide is designed to assist you in getting Sophos Remote Update and Sophos Anti-Virus installed onto your Windows based computer.

1. Un-install any existing Anti-Virus software that is currently installed on your computer. Refer to your current anti-virus user's guide on information on how to do this.

2. Select the "Remote Update for Windows" from the downloads page. Download and save the package to your computer. When the download completes, run the package by double clicking on it.

3. Click "OK" on the Welcome message to start the the WinZip Self Extractor Program. The program should start the Sophos Remote Update Utility automaticlly, if not click onthe Setup button to start the installation.

This will start the Sophos Remote Update installer.

4. Click Next

5. Select "Workstation Installation / Update " and then click Next.

6. Accept the default for the installation location and click Next. Review the installation details and Click Next to complete the install.

7. The Sophos Remote Update Utility is now installed on your computer. Now you will need to install the Anti-Virus component. In the system tray, the System Notification area down by the clock, you should find an icon like the one below.

Right click on the icon and select "Update Now." This will accomplish two tasks. First, it will check that the remote update utility can reach and access King's Sophos Remote Update server. Second, it will install the appropriate Sophos Anti-Virus for your computer. The first update that your computer performs will take a few minutes to complete. After the first update all subsequent updates will only take a few seconds.

You have to be connected to the internet for updates to work. If you are not connected, connect to the internet before attempting to start the update.
